Carla, also known to the world as Cece Semalulukut, is a contemporary Indigenous beadwork artist. Her distinctive personal style emanates joy and peace and expresses her vibrant spirit, pride, and traditions of her Sonoran Yaqui Tribe and Mexican culture. Raised in the heart of Detroit City, she would then move to Las Vegas in 1995. Today, with a powerful sense of compassion, she also serves the Las Vegas Valley as the Assistant to the President of Palm Mortuary and as a Licensed Funeral Director. A proud mom of two strong young individuals, Cece believes it a privilege to serve others. She values spending time with her family and giving back to the community through church and community volunteerism and taking part in cultural events. Her experiences and encounters all over Las Vegas have been positive and that is what motivates her to give back to the community and to play her small part in contributing a positive encounter for someone else.

She delights in honoring those she loves through the traditions, heritage, and culture of the artistry of Native American beadwork. Water and Sky Designs began as a reflection of her artistic inspiration. Each piece is unique and entails a meaningful message of its own. As an artist, her desire is for Water and Sky Designs to uplift, motivate, and empower her Native American community. Her dream is to bring a sense of pride that promotes healing to the hearts of those who experience the work of her hands. Cece shares that if you have a passion for beadwork, designs come to you naturally, and your spirit finds peace and joy when you bead then you should recognize that as a gift from Creator and a clear sign that you are following your life path. Always keep a humble heart and bless the work of your hands before you gift it or sell it as a gesture of appreciation to Creator for the gifts given and as a genuine desire to bless the recipient of the work of your hands.

thanks for checking out my project!

I could not have done any of this without the help of every single person who allowed me to share their story, take pictures of their work and environment, and the hard work of the Las Vegas community who come together to create memorable experiences to celebrate one another.
